Game Analysis: Celtics vs. Knicks
Boston Celtics 132, New York Knicks 109
Celtics’ Ring Ceremony
The Boston Celtics began the night by celebrating their 18th NBA championship. The players received their championship rings from Commissioner Adam Silver, and the Championship banner was raised to the rafters, fueling the Celtics to victory.
Celtics' Heroics
The Boston Celtics torched the Knicks, as they connected on 29 three pointers tying an NBA record, previously set by the Milwaukee Bucks. The duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown dominated, as Tatum had 37 points and 10 assists, while Brown had 23 points and 7 rebounds. Additionally, Derrick White chimed in with 24 points, while Jrue Holiday scored 18 points, proving that they are two of the best role players in the NBA. The Boston Celtics displayed their excellent ball movement, that we saw from them in their championship season last season. They are force to be reckoned with, as they beat a loaded Knicks team without their big man Kristaps Porzingis, and a serious threat to win another championship this season. The team has great chemistry, great ball movement, a great duo in Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, supported by some of the best role players in the league.
What went wrong with the Knicks?
First and foremost, the Knicks were outmatched in the rebounding department by the Boston Celtics, as they had 34 rebounds compared to the Celtics 40 rebounds. Additionally, they were very sloppy, as they had 11 turnovers compared to the Boston Celtics 3 turnovers. The Knicks defense also struggled allowing the Celtics to shoot 50.5% from the field and 47.5% from three point range. However, the knicks did shoot well from three point range, shooting 36.7% from three, and had impressive performance from their main stars. Jalen Brunson scored 22 points, while new member of the Knicks, Karl Anthony Towns scored 12 points and 7 rebounds in 24 minutes. Miles McBride has an impressive game off the bench, scoring 22 points. Even after the departure of Donte DiVincenzo the knicks still have key role players off the bench who can score the ball like Miles McBride and Cameron Payne.
What is going on with Mikal Bridges?
New member of the New York Knicks, Mikal Bridges was scoreless at halftime, but finished the game with 16 points on 53% from the field. However, his three point shooting, continues to be topic of concern, as he shot 28% from three point range on 7 attempts. His shooting numbers have decreased, after he changed his jump shot, which now looks like Bill Cartwright jump shot. In the last 5 games Mikal Bridges has shot 15% from three on 26 attempts. Mikal Bridges doesn't look to be the three point shooting sniper he was in Brooklyn and Phoenix, which could be very concerning, as the Knicks traded 5 unprotected first round picks for him. Additionally OG Anunoby also had a disappointing performance, as he had 4 points and shot 14% from the field on 7 shots. Although, the Knicks has a disappointing performance, they may become a force to be reckoned with, as they gain more chemistry and win more games.
