Steph Curry's Heroics
Stephen Curry started the game off on fire, hitting 4 straight three pointers, and scoring most of Team USA's points. He even hit a no look three, while the ball was in the air. However, team USA found the game slipping away from them when Serbia hit multiple threes of their own and went up 17 points. During the 4th quarter Team USA started to find some rhythm, but were down two in the closing minutes of the game. When the team needed Curry the most, he hit a clutch three pointer to give Team USA the lead. From that point, team USA never looked back. Although, Curry was struggling during the olympics, he came up big when the team needed him the most.
Joel Embiid's Importance
Many people believed that Team USA didn't need Joel Embiid, and should have started Anthony Davis, after watching him have two bad games. However, Team USA desperately needed Joel Embiid this game, and wouldn't have won without him. Whenever, Joel Embiid checked into the game, he gave Team USA a spark hitting mid-range jumpers, three pointers, and scoring inside the paint. He was the only player who was scoring, other than Stephen Curry. He also held his own defensively against Nikola Jokic, while Anthony Davis and Bam Adebayo had a very tough time guarding him. Most importantly, Joel Embiid hit crucial buckets for Team USA down the stretch, igniting a special comeback. Embiid hit three straight buckets from the mid-range and inside the paint, to help Team USA cut the lead within two points, late in the fourth quarter.
Lebron James' Triple Double
Although Lebron is almost 40 years old, he can still do it all! Lebron James scored 16 points 12 rebounds and 10 assists against Serbia. He hit a couple three pointers, and was an unstoppable force when driving to the rim. Most importantly, he hit clutch shots that ensured Team USA would win the game. Lebron made a tough layup, to tie the game against Serbia during the closing minutes of the game. Additionally, he made a beautiful reverse layup to extend Team USA's lead to three points. Without Lebron James' scoring, rebounding, passing, and defense Team USA, wouldn't have
Kevin Durant's Clutch Buckets
Throughout the first three quarters, Kevin Durant was struggling to score the ball, but started to find his rhythm in the fourth quarter. He hit a plethora of three pointers and mid-range jumpers, igniting a spark off the bench. With 35 seconds left in the 4th quarter, Kevin Durant hit a clutch mid-range jumper to extend Team USA's lead by four points. He hit the dagger that ensured team USA would win the game. Steve Kerr should insert Kevin Durant in the starting lineup for the Gold Medal game against France. He has more chemistry with the starters, and needs more touches in order to find a rhythm early in the game.
Serbia's effort
Serbia came into this game guns blazing, hitting an avalanche of three pointers. Led by Nikola Jokic and Bogdan Bogdanovic, Serbia's basketball IQ and chemistry was phenomenal. Key role players such as Vasile Micic, Aleksa Avramovic, Marko Gurduric, and Ognjen Dobric hit a plethora of three pointers. Additionally Bogdan Bogdonavic, scored 20 points, while Nikola Jokic scored 17 points and dished out 11 assists. Although, Serbia held a 17 point lead, they couldn't keep up with Team USA's talent throughout rest of the game.
Looking Ahead
Team USA will play France in their Gold Medal game, and are favored to win by 16.5 points. France is a team that shouldn't be underestimated as they have Victor Wembanyama, NBA role player Nicholas Batum, and a deadly guard duo in Gershan Yabusele and Isaia Cordinier. Additionally France has solid contributers off the bench, such as NBA player Evan Fournier, DPOY winner Rudy Gobert, and Mathias Lessort. France has a total of 6 NBA players and will give Team USA a run for their money. However, Team USA should beat France, and win their fifth straight Gold Medal.
